The Early Years, Les premières années
Mims was born at a small, privately owned stud in Devon, England in May 1996. She is Alezane's second, and last foal, her sister Faline was sold but even when the stud business failed because of financial difficulties and the other horses were sold, including her mother, Mims stayed. She belonged to the young son of the owner although it is quite obvious that she was a firm favourite of all the family - how could you not love someone who is so terribly unlucky? I always tell people that Mims is not a disaster waiting to happen, but one that happens with unfailing regularity. If it is possible to trip over something, cut yourself or bump into anything, Mims will do it!
Mims était né à un petit, privé haras au Devon, Angleterre en mai 1996. Elle est le deuxieme et dernier poulain d'Alezane, sa soeur Faline ont été vendus mais même lorsque les affaires d'haras ont échoué en raison des difficultés financières et des autres chevaux, y compris sa mère ont été vendus, Mims est resté. Elle a appartenu au jeune fils du propriétaire bien qu'il soit tout à fait évident qu'elle ait été un favori ferme de toute la famille - comment ne pourriez-vous pas aimer quelqu'un qui a tellement terriblement malchance? Je dis toujours des personnes que Mims n'est pas un désastre attendant pour se produire, mais une qui se produisent avec la régularité inébranlable. S'il est possible de se tomber au-dessus de quelque chose, la coupe vous-même ou la bosse dans n'importe quoi, Mims le fera !
She had her first major accident when she was only a few months old. Frightened by a sudden thunder storm, she tried to jump out of her stable and tore her abdomen open of the stable door. Just a few months later whilst she was in the pasture there was another load clap of thunder which caused her to try to escape over the hedge. Unfortunately her jumping skill had not improved very much and she sustained a penetrating injury caused by a branch that peirced her hind leg when she failed to clear it.
Elle a eu son premier accident grave quand elle a quelques mois seulement . Effrayé par un orage soudain, elle a essayé de sauter de son écurie et a déchiré son abdomen de la porte stable. Juste quelques mois plus tard tandis qu'elle était dans le pâturage là était une autre tape de charge 
de tonnerre qui l'a faite essayer de s'échapper au-dessus de la haie. Malheureusement sa compétence sautante ne s'était pas améliorée beaucoup et elle a subi des dommages pénétrants provoqués par une branche qui a percé sa jambe de derrière quand elle ne l'a pas clairement.
Her tendency to get herself into trouble isn't helped by the fact that she is as dim as she is beautiful. Who else could collide with a tree and get part of a branch stuck in her head? Who else would have the bad luck to be treated by a vet who had drunk a bit too much and stiched up the wound with a 2" piece of wood left in it?
Sa tendance de s'entrer dans des difficultés n'est pas aidée par le fait qu'elle est aussi faible qu'elle est belle. Qui d'autre a-t-elle pu se heurter un arbre et obtenir à une partie d'une branche coincée dans sa tête ? Qui d'autre aurait le malchance d'être traité par un vétérinaire qui avait bu un peu trop et stiched vers le haut de la blessure avec un 5cm morceau de bois est parti dans lui ?
We found Mims when we were researching Alli's history. Because she has a freeze mark security number on her back we were able to contact the company to change the ownership details and ask them if they would contact the previous owner on our behalf. It wasn't long before Caroline rang us and we arranged for her to come to meet Alli again as it had been a number of years since she had seen her. Carol arrived with her son Tarquel and lots of photographs of Alli, Mims and their companions at the stud. We kept in touch for a few years and although we would never have the money to buy Mims I told Caroline that if ever she was unable to keep Mims but wanted to give her a secure future there would always be a "home for life" her with us. When Caroline's circumstances changed again and she was no longer able to afford to keep her we agreed that Mims should come to live with us and our "little herd" at Ninefields. Mims was now 10 years old and mother and daughter had been seperated since weaning.
Nous avons trouvé Mims quand nous recherchions l'histoire d'Alli. Puisqu'elle a un nombre de sécurité sur son dos nous pouvions contacter la compagnie pour changer les détails de propriété et pour leur demander s'ils contacteraient le propriétaire précédent en notre nom. Il n'etait pas longtemps avant que Caroline ait nous téléphoné et nous avons arrangements pris pour elle venir pour rencontrer Alli encore car c'avait été un certain nombre d'années depuis qu'elle l'avait vue. Caroline est arrivée avec son fils Tarquel et un bon nombre de photographies d'Alli, de Mims et de leurs compagnons au haras. Nous avons resté en contact pendant quelques années et bien que nous n'ayons jamais l'argent pour acheter Mims j'ai dit à Caroline que si jamais elle ne pouvait pas garder Mims mais a voulu la donner qu'un futur secure là serait toujours un "maison pour la vie" pour elle avec nous. Quand les circonstances de Caroline changées encore et elle ne pouvaient plus se permettre de la garder que nous avons convenu que Mims devrait venir pour vivre avec nous et notre "petit troupeau " ; chez Ninefields. Mims était maintenant 10 années et la mère et la fille avaient été séparées depuis le sevrage.
